When you become a member at the Farmington Food Co-op you join a group of people who are invested in supporting a sustainable, healthy, environmentally conscious, community-centered grocery store option.
Whether you choose to become a member or not, you are always welcome at the Farmington Food Co-op. However, members are the heart and soul of the store. Or, in this case, you might say they are the meat and potatoes of the place. By becoming a member, you are contributing capital toward this exciting new adventure.
What it means to be a member
Cooperatives are owned by its members, which means that all decisions are made collectively by way of a democratic voting process. A board of directors (elected annually by members) implements those decisions. If you want to see a wall painted neon orange instead of green, you can bring that to a member meeting. If you want to see organic wines being sold at the store, you can bring that to a member meeting. If you want the store to increase employee wages, you can bring that to a member meeting. This store is your store, is all of our store. It will be what WE make it!
Memberships are for life and cost $150. We also offer a low-barrier lifetime membership for $50. If neither of those options work for you financially, please reach out. We will not deny ANYONE a membership. One membership covers one household, but only equates to one vote. Memberships can be canceled at any time but at this point in our growth, reimbursements are offered at the discretion of the member community and board of directors.
Upon acceptance of your application owners will have a number that is unique to you.

What are the benefits of being a member?
First and foremost, you get to be a part of a really cool community initiative.
We are excited for lots of community engagement opportunities, so if volunteering and smiling at people is your bread and butter, get ready!
You get to have a voice in the way the grocery store functions. You vote in board elections, help guide the direction of the store and attend member meetings.
You get access to exclusive deals, discounts and sales. While we haven’t nailed down all the details on these yet, we’ve looked at what other co-ops are doing. Things like a Wellness Wednesday discount, member-only discounts on bulk orders and more are floating around in our brains. What kind of member perks do YOU want to see?
Our goal is that by year three we will be giving back money to members by way of Patronage Dividends. At the end of each year, any profits accrued are divided among members based on the amount of money spent at the co-op.

Special consideration is given to Educators, Low-Income Seniors, Veterans and Military, BIPOC community members, LGBTQ+ members and UMF students.
